We had a mid-trip issue with our fridge. Our trailer was still under warranty so we found the nearest Travel Lite dealer, Doug's, to service the trailer.On the phone to book the appointment, the service department was curt and made it clear that they would do the bare minimum to help someone who didn't buy from Doug's, which made us feel like second-tier customers. We later found out we were talking to the owner.We were pretty desperate for a working fridge, so we went ahead with the appointment despite the poor treatment on the phone. We dropped the trailer off, also asking Doug's to have a look at one of our tires that was showing some uneven wear. The owner said shed call with an update after they looked at the trailer. Getting towards the end of the day, we hadnt heard back, so we called Doug's ourselves, at which point the owner indicated (curtly) she had been trying to get ahold of us all day. We thought we might have provided the wrong number when we dropped the trailer off, but later found the number she wrote on the invoice was correct. Clearly the mistake was hers, so we didnt appreciate the tone she gave us on the phone. She told us the fridge was pooched and needed a new cooling unit, which is apparently quite a bit of work, and it would cost us extra because the fridge manufacturer wouldnt cover all of the labour. We asked if shed been in contact with the manufacturer to confirm this, at which point we found out she hadnt bothered to contact anyone (Travel Lite or the fridge manufacturer) and was basing this on past experience. When we returned to pick up the trailer, the owner went over the work they did, including diagnosing the fridge issue and swapping the worn out tire with our spare. We told her we would be returning in the next week or two on our return trip and asked if she could fit us in for the repair. She said she wouldnt be able to do anything for 2 months and appeared to be glad to get rid of us.The owner then charged us $100 for the labour, which was disappointing because she hadnt made any effort to get the work covered under warranty. She could have at least given us a heads up that wed be on the hook for her costs before Dougs did the work, either on the phone when we first called or when we dropped the trailer off.This was a very frustrating experience compared to other warranty work weve had done while away from home. The owner at Dougs obviously didn't want us to be there and we were treated with extremely poor customer service, including dealing with power play behaviour to make us feel inferior. I wouldnt recommend getting any service from Dougs. If you bought from them, it might be another matter, but I wouldnt count on it.
